As a conductor, Joe leads seven ensembles across the South West of England — including the Bristol Military Wives Choir and Westbury Park Orchestra — and serves as Musical Director for the Gloucestershire Music Service and Youth Orchestras. Alongside composing and conducting, Joe is a trainee adjudicator with the Association of Brass Band Adjudicators, a freelance tutor with the Bristol Ensemble (Preludes) and WEMA, and a choir leader with St George’s Bristol and Bristol Hippodrome. His passion for collaboration and community shines through both his leadership and his compositions.

Winning 1st Prize in the When Tuba Come One International Composition Competition in 2020 with his tuba quartet ‘Pandemic’ , Joe was commissioned to write We Wish Tu-ba Merry Christmas, performed by 27 lower brass players from across the UK, US, and Asia. In 2023, his debut work for brass band Disinformation! was performed by Solna Brass in Sweden, before later joining the Brookwright Music team in 2024 on their composer roster. As an arranger, he has written music for Ark Academy, the Bristol Ensemble, and the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain, and is regularly in demand as a score copyist and music editor both in the theatre and television circuits.

Ark Academy

Since 2025, Joe has been involved as a percussion tutor for Ark Academy, a musical hub of schools based across London, Portsmouth and Birmingham. He has also been an arranger for their strings sections and work closely with the orchestra’s principal conductor Enyi Okpara

Bristol Military Wives Choir

Since 2024, Joe has been the conductor for the Bristol Military Wives Choir, leading them through concerts across Bristol and the South West of England, including annual performances for Armed Forces Day , Remembrance Day and D-Day. In February 2025, Joe led a songwriting- composing workshop co-writing an anthem which will receive its world premiere in 2026.

Westbury Park Orchestra

Since 2021, Joe has been the MD of the Westbury Park Orchestra, leading the 55-strong group through a host of concerts in their local patch of Bristol, Westbury-on-Trym - performing collaborative concerts with the Kozachky Choir, the Bristol School of Dancing, the Gasworks Choir, the Port of Bristol Sea Shanty Choir, Ebony Tunnicliffe, and the Bristol Russian Ballet School

Winterbourne Wind Band

Having joined the band back in October 2019, Winterbourne Wind Band has worked with Joe now over six years in which time it has seen the membership increase from 17 up to 40, with the group rehearsing Thursdays in Bradley Stoke’s Holy Trinity Church. The band have performed across the city of Bristol in parks, flower shows and village halls, as well as at private fundraisers and concerts at Christ Church Downend.

St Georges and Cosmos Choir

Alongside pianist Aaron Miles, Joe has been the choir leader at Cosmos Choir since taking over his successor Liz Britton in 2024, leading the after school choir at Oasis Connaught in Knowle as well as Oasis Long Cross in Lawrence Weston. The children get the chance to regularly perform on trips including Bristol Cathedral, St Mary Redcliffe and Tyntesfield (National Trust)

Bristol Hippodrome Community Choir

Since its pilot in March 2025, Joe has led the Bristol Hippodrome Community Choir as part of the Bristol Creative Learning initiative ran by visionary Kyle Pryke- which sees the theatre open up its doors outside of show hours to the community offering classes in choir, acting and directing, as well as its extensive collaborative work with schools and sixth form colleges across the South West of England. To date, the choir meet fortnightly on Tuesdays from 10am-12pm and work through a host of famous musical theatre tunes for fun

Preludes and Bristol Ensemble

Having worked closely with Prelude’s founder Penny Rawlings from his time leading Westbury Park Orchestra, Joe joined the Preludes team in 2024 where he now teaches keyboard and brass at Somerdale (and Ilminster Avenue) - as well as working with youngsters in their bi-annual concerts at St Mary Redcliffe and Bristol Cathedral with Cosmos Choir. Having too wrote for the main ensemble Bristol Ensemble in his forthcoming debut album, Joe is a known entity in the organisations- having too conducted the Bristol Ensemble in their joint Christmas concert with Bristol Military Wives Choir

West of England Music and Arts (WEMA)

With his experience with Preludes Music, Joe joined the WEMA team in September 2025 as an instrumental tutor where he helps lead brass sessions at Watermore Primary School in Frampton Cotterell, and has recently helped co-lead the new WEMA Adult Wind Band and Learners Group with Andy Keenan at Bath’s Hayesfield Sixth Form College. As a choir conductor, Joe also leads choral workshops out of term-time for primary and secondary school students across Bristol and Avon.

Ranch Choir and Orchestra

In partnership with the Southmead Ranch Adventure Playground, alongside guitar teacher Rob Norbury, Joe has worked this year to co-found the Ranch Choir with youngsters across Southmead through a new initiative to bring singing to the youth club both after-school and during the holidays. The choir are going from strength to strength having performed and are looking ahead to hopefully expanding to becoming a small ensemble over 2025-2026
