‘‘Where words fall silent, music begins.’’
Joe Galuszka is a British composer, conductor, and multi-instrumentalist whose work bridges the worlds of contemporary, classical and cinematic music. Blending emotional storytelling with orchestral and ambient textures, he crafts soundscapes that move between fragility and power — from intimate piano passages to sweeping symphonic moments.
A self-taught pianist turned brass and percussion performer, Joe has played with some of the UK’s leading ensembles, including Tredegar Band, Flowers Band, and the Bristol Symphony Orchestra, and has performed in prestigious venues such as Symphony Hall Birmingham, Leeds Town Hall, Canterbury Cathedral, and the Royal Albert Hall.
As a conductor, he leads seven ensembles — including the Bristol Military Wives Choir and Westbury Park Orchestra — and serves as Musical Director for the Gloucestershire Music Service and Youth Orchestras. Alongside composing and conducting, Joe is a trainee adjudicator with the Association of Brass Band Adjudicators, a freelance tutor with the Bristol Ensemble (Preludes) and WEMA, and a choir leader with St George’s Bristol and Bristol Hippodrome. His passion for collaboration and community shines through both his leadership and his compositions.
Winning 1st Prize in the When Tuba Come One International Composition Competition in 2020 with his tuba quartet ‘Pandemic’ , Joe was commissioned to write We Wish Tu-ba Merry Christmas, performed by 27 lower brass players from across the UK, US, and Asia. In 2023, his debut work for brass band Disinformation! was performed by Solna Brass in Sweden, before later joining the Brookwright Music team in 2024 on their composer roster. As an arranger, Joe has written music for Ark Academy, the Bristol Ensemble, the Leon Quartet, the Pernambuco Quartet, and the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain, and is regularly in demand as a score copyist and music editor both in the theatre and television circuits.
Joe’s music has since featured in over 15 films and documentaries, showcased at film festivals across the UK, Spain, Holland, Australia, Lithuania, Portugal, Mexico, and Croatia. His film soundtrack work has earned international acclaim — his score for Firekeepers of Kakadu (SBS Australia) received Gold at the London Independent Film Awards and Bronze at the Global Music Awards. He was also a finalist for Best Original Score in a Short Film at the 2025 International Sound and Film Music Festival in Varaždin, Croatia, for his score to A Sin De Fella Story, and has served as a soundtrack judge for the Wildscreen Festival, Jackson Wild Festival, and the Children & Family Emmy Awards.
In November 2025, his orchestral commission A Symphony of Centuries will receive its world premiere, followed by the release of his debut album Fractures in December 2025— recorded with the Bristol Ensemble at St George’s Bristol, mixed by Alex Garden and in partnership with and with funding by Help Musicians. The album is dedicated to the city of Bristol, to his father, late grandparents, and his late mother - and serves as a deeply personal collection exploring themes of resilience, transformation, and healing.
