CONCERT MUSIC

Joe writes orchestral and chamber music with a strong sense of narrative, drawing on his wider work in contemporary classical and screen composition. In 2025, his orchestral work A Symphony of Centuries was written to celebrate Longwell Green Orchestra’s 100th anniversary.

His music for smaller ensembles includes Adventure for Strings, which has been performed by both the Leon Quartet and Pernambuco Quartet. Across his concert music, Joe combines accessible, cinematic writing with an interest in storytelling, contemporary themes and music written specifically for the musicians and ensembles who bring it to life.

Orchestra

Joe’s brass writing draws on extensive first-hand experience as both a performer and conductor, having played tuba or percussion with Flowers Band, Tredegar Town Band, Aldbourne Band, Rothwell Temperance Band and Filton Concert Brass, and conducted Bradwell Silver Band and Abertillery Town Band.

His growing catalogue with BrookWright Music includes Pandemic!, We Wish Tu-Ba Merry Christmas, Ukraine: 2022, Disinformation! and Extinction. Disinformation! was premiered by Swedish Championship brass band Solna Brass, while Pandemic! and We Wish Tu-Ba Merry Christmas have been performed by When Tuba Come One and Friends. In 2026, Joe also wrote The Bradwellite to celebrate Bradwell Silver Band’s 125th anniversary.

Band

Joe’s choral writing brings together his experience as a composer and conductor, with a particular interest in expressive, text-led music for voices. His work Crossing the Bar was workshopped by the Juice Ensemble as part of the Cheltenham Composer Academy, while his new choral work Safety Net is set to receive its premiere from the Bristol Military Wives Choir in 2027.

Alongside composing for voices, Joe works extensively with community, adult and youth choirs, giving his choral music a strong practical foundation in writing that is both engaging to perform and direct in its communication with audiences.
