Commissioned for James Watson, as part of the University of Bristol Vice Chancellor Scholarship
Annual Concert series, Dance of the Domovoi takes us through the daily grunt of the domovoi,
an ancient Slavic folklore goblin-like creature of Russia, and his battles with the family home.
The piece requires the cello to be detuned, scordatura, for the whole piece, and the piece is based on a set of series and variations with a cadenza that requires the performer to delve into the wide range
of the instrument, before returning to the original theme.
The cello should be detuned to B, F#, C# and G#
