ADVENTURES FOR STRINGS (2012)

Composed for string quintet (Vln 1, Vln 2, Vla, Vlc, Db) / string orchestra

Commissioned for the Canterbury Christ Church University String Orchestra in 2012

UK Premiere 2012. Performed at the opening of the St Augustine's Hall, Canterbury City Centre

'Adventures for Strings' is a suite of three short dances for string ensemble. The work takes us on a journey through the British countryside in a gallivant of joy in Allegretto Vivace and conjures a feeling of bouncing through meadows and exploring the grassy hills of Kent, the Garden of England. The piece then withdraws as we enter the Largo, and a pause on the majesty of nature  and our role within it. The finale again brings us back to an abundance of energy and franticness as we venture into the new, in a joky Allegro giocoso.

The piece is of moderate difficulty and the violin 1 part and cello part are at UK Grade 6 level.

All other parts are approximately UK Grade 5.

Other transcriptions are available on request - such as for wind or brass ensemble.
